CONVERGENCE

What if love were inevitable?

Written, Produced & Directed by Akima A. Brown

Three Decades. Two Hearts.
One Love Written in the Stars.

Nine-year-old Miles lost his mother, and part of her cherished keepsake, on the same day in a hospital corridor.

Or so he thought.

Down the hall, six-year-old Amil, sad with her arm in a cast, perks up when something shiny rolls into her room.

He keeps the bracket. She keeps the key. Neither knows the other exists.

For the next twenty years, the two orbit one another as if fate means for them to meet.

The key — carried unknowingly for twenty years
The bracket — polished into a ring, waiting for its other half

In their teens: a going-away gift turns the key into a necklace. A birthday present turns the bracket into a ring. Two halves of a whole, carried unknowingly toward the same moment.

A middle school hallway. A crowded Christmas party. Every near-miss tightens the spiral of a connection that refuses to die despite never having lived.

Then the planets align — literally. A rare celestial convergence draws them both to the same rooftop on the same night. She sees the ring. He sees the key. And for the first time, two people who have been carrying pieces of each other's story their entire lives finally stand face to face.

When they meet under a sky that has conspired for decades to make this moment possible, the moment is sealed with a single sound:

"Hi."

And in a breath. Love is born.

Convergence is a love story about what happens when the universe refuses to let two people miss each other, even when life keeps getting in the way.

Convergence exists because Black audiences deserve to see themselves in a love story where the universe is conspiring for them, not against them. Not trauma. Not survival. Not overcoming. Just two people finding each other because the cosmos said so — and joy is the destination.

The film moves across three decades, using a single mechanical trinket — split in two — as the thread that binds its protagonists. The tone is warm, intimate, and gently magical, grounded in the specific textures of Black American life: birthday parties in backyards, ugly-sweater Christmas gatherings, best friends who never stop trying to set you up.

The visual language draws from the celestial — night skies, warm interior light, the contrast between vast cosmic events and the small, human moments they illuminate. The convergence itself is both astronomical and deeply personal: the planets align, and so do the people who were always meant to find each other.
